Cotopaxi National Park
One of the great trips Ecuador has to offer is a visit to the Cotopaxi National Park. The stunning and almost perfectly symmetrical cone of the Cotopaxi Volcano is the tallest peak of the eastern chain of the Andes. Many visitors come to undertake the challenge of climbing Cotopaxi, others enjoy hikes or treks through this wonderful world of the Ecuadorian paramo. At 5,897 m, Cotopaxi, which means ‘shining peak’, is the worlds tallest continuously active volcano. It has erupted some 50 times since 1738, and lava flows from past volcanic activities can be seen in its vicinity.
