Machalilla National Park
Located in the Manabi Province in the pacific coast, Machalilla National park has the most beautiful and pristine beaches of mainland Ecuador, but is also known for the archeological sites of the Machalilla culture, the sulfur lagoon of Aguablanca and for the “Isla de la Plata” (Silver Island), where it’s possible to find a few of the bird species of the Galapagos. The area is famous as well for whale watching, since humpback whales come to this coast to give birth during the months of July, August and September. The whales celebrate the births by jumping out of the water, making for a unique natural show.
