The Maquipucuna Ecolodge is like no other cloud forests destination in Ecuador, amidst 14,000 acres of privately protected forests of the endangered Spectacled Bear. The internationally award-winning Maquipucuna Ecolodge is nestled in the northern part of the Reserve at 1300 masl (4265 feet), thus enjoying warm comfortable weather year round. This is in the lowest altitude cloud forest. It is lower than Tandayapa or Bellavista, so the flora and fauna are a bit different.
The ecolodge is built in accordance with its natural surroundings by the Umachaca & Cariaco Rivers, creating an even more beautiful, relaxing back-to-nature experience. It offers different types of accommodations, all of which have running spring water and hot showers. Relax in the warm breeze and be swept away by the exuberant scenery. Our top tropical accommodations including the Cachillacta House – are perfect for your getaway experience to the Cloud Forest. This spacious luxurious rooms feature each its own private bathroom, furnishings and beautiful deck for relaxing to the sounds of nature, and energetic rivers. It’s a minute walk from the main lodge.
Tulipe House offer suites with double beds and private bathrooms with amazing views of the forest and rivers. It’s joined to the main lodge by a covered bridge.
Ayllu House for families or small groups to enjoy a little more privacy, located 5 minutes from the main lodge, can comfortably sleep up to 6 guests and offers private bathrooms and a living room.

We enjoyed the Eco Lodge and the reserve and relished every minute. A fabulous experience (only 2 hours) away from the buzzing megacity of Quito. A large variety of birds from tiny colibris to big aras, and last not least impeccable accommodation and really great food!

Guides were expert and the hikes were exciting, totally committed to conserving the forest that is home to the endangered spectacled bear. We saw many beautiful birds, orchids and butterflies.
